For JJ’s birthday, we sent him to Austin to watch MotoGP, which meant I was on my own for the weekend. It just so happens Cailee had a dance competition in Supply, NC. Ever heard of it? I hadn’t, but apparently it’s at the coast so we decided to make a weekend of it. I booked a room for the kids and I on the beach and while we lucked out with sunny weather, it wasn’t exactly warm. The wind would kick up and the sand would get to blowing and it was downright chilly.

Of course, a little wind, sand in the face (sunglasses helped with that) and cold, cold water didn’t stop the kids. They got wet, played in the sand and when they’d had enough, they went to the indoor pool.

At dance competition one, Cailee tried out her new mermaid tail. Then mom (good job Ami) left it at the hotel. So we had to get another one for dance competition #2. The mermaid tail made Cailee the center of attention at the pool (and while she never likes to make an entrance, she loves the attention).

Connor was a really good sport at the Dance competition, as long as he had his ipad he was entertained enough for me to run around and deal with Cailee. Cailee added some more hardware to her collection – three more trophies – we are running out of room on top of her book shelf – but I’m super proud of her – it’s not easy to get up in front of an auditorium full of people and compete and she does it. It gets me almost every time.

We capped off the weekend with a trip to the NC Aquarium. It was well off the beaten path but quick fun and wore the kids out enough that I earned some shuteye on the trip home.
