So I have always wanted to do this. At the Eno they always have a New Year’s day hike. This year, I was especially motivated this year because it was warm outside. Only problem was – everyone had the same great idea! The traffic getting into the park presented us with two options – skip it (boo!) or park on the side of the road and walk to the park entrance. The kids would have preferred to skip it but we decided to park and huff it to the entrance – about a mile to be exact – so the 2.5 mile hike turned out to be over 4.5 miles long by the time it was all said and done. It was also incredibly muddy (it had rained a lot recently) but we did our best to avoid the sloppiest areas, and we didn’t have any accidents (I was convinced someone was going to slide down a hill or something). We ended the hike with popcorn, hot chocolate and s’mores (although the chocolate was all gone by the time we got to the end). It turned out to be a lot of fun! And while the kids have made me promise to never do it again, it’s already on my list for next year.
