It’s with mixed feelings that I’ve been counting down the days til our beach trip. We planned it last minute for the very last possible week of the summer – that is – the last week before Cailee starts kindergarten. Every part of me was super excited for vacation, except for the part that knows that when we return my little girl starts school, and this somehow feels like the beginning of the end. So while I can’t hardly believe it’s nearly upon us, I am so glad we have all week to just run and play and act ignorant of what’s right around the corner.

And we’ve had a pretty awesome trip so far. The weather’s been perfect, sunny and hot every day; the accommodations are great, this place rolls out the red carpet for you (and free internet to boot!); there are plenty of fun activities for the kiddos; it’s biking galore, 50 miles of biking trails to be exact, which makes JJ happy; and a Starbucks right around the corner for me (just kidding, there really is a Starbucks but it’s the smile on the kids’ faces that makes my day).

Our place is right across the street from the beach, but it’s a pretty isolated beach, that ordinarily would be wonderful, but the kids want to be where the action is so we rented bikes (it’s just what everyone does) and a kiddie cart and have been camping out at the brand new beach club. We aren’t the only ones with this idea, but the kids have made friends, and we appreciate that there are nice bathrooms, and good food in walking distance of our chairs.

Night one we went down to Harbour Town and enjoyed the free concert. The kids actually had the nerve to get up on the stage and dance along with the music. I have to say, Connor stole the show, he was hilarious dancing. I couldn’t help but laugh, but he would see me grinning and look over at me and tell me to stop – I guess I was killing his vibe. This would have been the perfect time for a video, but it was just too dark.
