For the second year in a row, Cailee has had a Gymnastics meet in Columbus, Georgia. That’s a small town right on the Georgia/Alabama line (you can walk to the state line). Its over an eight hour drive, straight through Atlanta so we’ve opted to fly each time – about 5 hours is my limit when it comes to driving especially since the turn around is so quick. The two nice things about the meet is that 1. the weather is typically warmer there then it is back home and 2. there is a college meet the girls get to go to at Auburn, the night before they compete. Auburn is about 40 minutes away.

So taking advantage of the warm weather, the kids immediately jumped in the pool. It wasn’t quite warm enough for my taste (mid 70s) – but peer pressure + the idea that they were able to go swimming well before it was “summer” will go a long ways to getting some girls into the pool. We also enjoyed walking around the little town of Columbus. One morning it had a street fair of sorts with local merchants selling their wares. The girls also became enamored with a local pizza joint that made to order pizza. It wasn’t really the pizza they liked so much (although that was good) as the fact that they gave each of the girls an extra pile of pizza dough to play with – to all of them it was like a “squishy”. Ours made it all the way home with us on the flight (which I didn’t think it would). In between pizza and pool, We had drama with the rental car (the reservation got lost so we had to get a taxi to get to another local rental place, to get a REALLY OLD rental van), a good night in Auburn, walks down by the river to watch the kayakers and climb on the rocks, fun at the playground, plus Cailee had a solid performance at the meet (although I’ll save that for the next post). All in all – it was a good girls weekend and another gymnastics meet in the books.
