Today started bright and early. It was our day at Castaway Cay (Key) which is Disney’s Island in the Bahamas. JJ and I decided to run the 5K on the island and the kids were off to the Kids area. They (ok, Cailee) was reluctant but by the time the race was over and we returned she wasn’t ready to leave. They were playing a freeze game and she was in the finals and my little competitor had to see it through (I think it ended as a tie eventually). The day was windy, which felt good when you were sunbathing but was a little too nutty in the water. I had rented tubes and put Connor in one and set him a sail. I had my camera hoping to get some pictures and before I knew it he had blown clear to the other side of the stationed off beach. He wasn’t worried at all – but a lifeguard brought him back just the same. From there on out I had to hold the kids when they went out in the tubes. The day was fun, Cailee and I played a rousing game of checkers. She beat me fair and square. That night was pirate night. I’d heard everyone really goes all out for it – and they were right. We had a hard time distinguishing some people from the real deal Captain Hook. I had scheduled appointments for the kids to go to the Bibbidi Bop Boutique and instead of a Princess makeover, it would be Pirate makeovers. Cailee was a little reluctant but we checked it out ahead of time and she decided to go with it. She ended up loving it! As did Connor (we got the serious face, as in, I’m taking this very seriously). The evening was fun, it was Pirate themed dinner, a Pirate show, complete with fireworks and dance party. Things went late but we found out later the captain did a lot of maneuvering to avoid storms so we could get everything in on the open deck. I never thought about them changing course to avoid weather but I guess it makes sense.
